Michael Hames Retrospective
Dear art collector,
As you are the owner of one or more of Michael Hames’ works of
art, I am requesting your assistance in a project I think is overdue.
As you are probably aware, Michael does not believe in having
his work reproduced in the form of giclee or photolithographic signed and
numbered “prints” for commercial gain. He adheres to the ethic that a piece of
fine art should be just that—something the artist himself has created. (Please

It had not been possible for Michael, financially, to hire a
professional photographer to record every piece of his work prior to acquiring
a digital camera rather recently. Regrettably, many pieces were sold without
this form of documentation.
It is my hope to add web pages to this site showing as much of
Michael’s past work as possible. As Michael’s range of subject matter has
varied and his artistic approach has diversified over the years, I think such a
display will be of interest to his many collectors and admirers, and at the
same time will form a lasting virtual exhibition of this incredibly talented
artist’s repertoire.
If you are interested in helping with this project, please

Please include any information you may have on the piece: size,
medium, title, approximate date of purchase, etc. Any information will be
helpful. If it is not possible to send an image, I’d still like to hear from
you—it’s possible your piece was one of the photographed ones, which I will be
starting with. If you recognise a piece as yours, I would be pleased to add
your name as the owner (please read on.)
Don’t worry if the photos are not perfect—it is only a record I
am seeking to make, and I can crop out backgrounds, etc. Unless you request
anonymity, which will be respected, all participants will be acknowledged with
the images. It would be of interest to know where the pieces ended up, so a
location as well as your name would be a great addition.
